Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Welcomes Giraffes and Hartebeests

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) recently announced an exciting new development at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. In a recent update on their social media platform, UWA revealed that the sanctuary had expanded its biodiversity with the successful translocation of giraffes and hartebeests.

Commonly known as the only place where you can find free ranging rhinos, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is now home to giraffes and hartebeests, adding a new dimension to the sanctuary’s appeal. The introduction of giraffes and hartebeests not only enhances the sanctuary’s wildlife diversity but also enriches the visitor experience.

The sanctuary will now offer a closely similar to experience to Lake Mburo national park walking safari where you get a chance to interact with Giraffes, zebras and several antelopes. With the none predatory nature of Ziwa Rhino sanctuary, chances are high that Uganda wildlife Authority will transfer several other species there.

Though the initial arrangement was to bread Rhinos and later transfer them back to their natural habitat, this recent development seems to be marking an end to releasing the Rhinos into the wild. If the Rhinos are released into the national parks once again, it would mean that the Sanctuary will be left with merely animals that can be found else where in Uganda.
