Is Uganda Safe To Visit After Elections?
Uganda went into the polls on the 15th of January 2026 in a highly contested vote. The Ugandan pop star alias Bobi Wine also known as Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu was contesting against the longest reigning president in the history of Uganda; Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. In a country that has never changed presidency through a free and fair election, the dreams of millions of Ugandans who ere in support of Bobi Wine were cut short even before the polling day. Just after the final rally on the 13th of January 2026; the internet was shut down at exactly 5 minutes past 6pm.

Pre Election Uganda 2026
The whole country went silent at this moment. You could only communicate via a phone call or sms. The possibility of sharing any graphic images had been put to an end. The Uganda communication commission said that this was done to curb the misinformation that was likely to be a threat to national security. With what had happened in Tanzania just a few months ago and Cameroon, it is not a surprise that someone would wonder whether Uganda is safe to visit after the elections.

Some people expected riots after the elections. But with the communication already cut off and both the army and the police deployed on the street, there was little that could be done in terms of riots. However there were a few incidents of suppressed riots so of much saw the death several Ugandans. (mentioning the number might not be a good idea 🙂 )
A few Ugandans left the country to find internet in the neighboring countries. Others left for safety reasons since they had expected a lot of riots after the elections. Many people claim that this is one of the most rigged elections in Uganda’s history. The voter turn out was fair since almost half of the 21 million registered voters showed up on the polling day.

The election is said to have been free and fair in some circles but among those who lost their beloved and those who lost during the elections, majority of them have nothing by bad comments about the whole election process. Among those who say it was free and fair, they have their reasons that ought to be scrutinized. Among those who say it was filled with irregularities, there also have their evidence. But there is nothing that happened during the elections that majority of the Ugandans never expected.
Post Elections Uganda 2026
Now that the election process is done, what is the current state of Uganda? Is it safe to visit Uganda post elections? The answer is yes, it is safe to visit Uganda post election. There is nothing much that has changed. It is still the same president, the same government but this time with a lot more electro offices than it has ever had before. The roaming fear for riots is gone. If you wish to visit the country, it is quite safe hear. To give you a clear picture, this is the place where people would hear a gunshot and draw near to see what has happened because they do not expect the sound to be of a gun. Such loud sounds are often for a busted tire.
