Gorilla Permit To Cost $1000 Effective 1st January 2027
The Uganda Wildlife Authority has set a new price for gorilla trekking in Uganda, effective 1st January 2027. Currently, the Uganda gorilla permit is currently $800 per foreign non-resident. This will be edging close to the Rwandan $1500 gorilla permit for non-residents. This will be the third time in a row that the Uganda Wildlife Authority is revising the gorilla trekking rate in less than 7 years.
The previous rate revision has been $100 increase per price change. It was from $600, to $700, then $800. It is the first time in the last seven years that the permit price has been increased by $200. Similar to the former price increase, the experience remains the same. It is simply the same experience but at a revised price.
One of the reasons that gorilla trekking is expensive is because there is a limited number of people allowed to access the national park on a daily basis. Unlike the savannah parks where whoever wishes to visit simply pays an entrance fee, in gorilla trekking the number is limited. In order to compensate for the numbers; the park charges one person a fee that is paid by a total of 25 people in the savannah parks.

Courtesy of wild places, Uganda is going hard on conservation efforts. There are also plans to limit the number of access to the savannah parks in the coming years. The country intends to avoid the strain that Tanzania and Kenya courtesy of Masai Mara and Serengeti national park tend to put on the wildlife. Though it is common to find like thirty cars in just one sector of Bwindi, all these people often go to different directions in the same forest. It is close to impossible to find 30 people in one spot.
The price of the gorilla trekking permit must have been inspired mostly by the Rwanda gorilla trekking permit rate. Though there is need for more resource to support the conservation efforts of the Uganda wildlife Authority, it is also true that they are not revising the rates for Kidepo valley national park because they very well know that it will deter the few visitors that drive that far to visit of the best savannah national parks in Africa.

For clarity purposes, the gorilla trekking permits is costing $800 per foreign non resident until 31st December 2026. This means that even if you are buying the permits for next year in 2026, you will still pay $1000. It is not that you only start paying $1000 on 1st January 2027, it is that every permit that intends to track starting 1st January 2027 on wards, you will pay $1000
