Picking Up A Car From Entebbe Airport Vs Hotel
Hiring a car for self-drive has become one of the major ways people choose to explore Uganda. Most car rental agencies offer three options for picking up the car. Some deliver the car to you at the airport free of charge, while others can charge you an extra fee. You can also have the car delivered to you at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe and sometimes other major cities in Uganda. Lastly, some car rental agencies require you to pick up and drop off the car at their company offices.
In this article we share some of the things you might have to consider when you are choosing on whether to pick up the car at the airport or have it delivered at your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala.
Time of Arrival
Turkish airlines is fond of arriving as early as 2:30am. Some car rental agencies are willing to deliver the car to you at any time of arrival but this could be risky sometimes. Most of the roads in Uganda do not have lights, and businesses usually start opening around 7:00am or 8:00am. If your time of arrival is around 3am, it is often recommended that you wait at the airport until 6am or 7am.
Alternatively, you can get an airport transfer by one of the hotels in Entebbe and spend part of the morning time sleeping. You could spend this morning time of waiting reading a book or travel guides. At 4x4uganda, we deliver cars earliest 6:00am. This is partly for your safety. In case you get an issue past 6:00am, there is room to offer assistance but anytime before that is a beat tricky given that some help relies on other service providers who do not work outside day time.
Hotel Location From The Airport
If you have purposed to spend a night at your hotel near the airport. Instead of having the car delivered to you at the airport, you can simply get an airport transfer by your hotel and then have the car delivered at your hotel. Sometimes there are delays in car delivery due to road closure by the president. It is sometimes better to get an airport transfer if your hotel is in the proximity of less than 5km from the airport.
Most car rental agencies do not charge you for delivering the car straight at the airport or at your hotel in Entebbe. Therefore, the cost of the delivery is not in question. It is a matter of convenience. It is more convenient to have the car delivered at the airport if you are arriving during the day than during the night.
In conclusion, if you are arriving at the airport past 21:00 hours, it is recommended to get an airport transfer from your hotel in Entebbe and then have the car delivered to you at your hotel. The same applies if you are arriving anywhere between 2:00am and 6:00am. If you are arriving at 6:00am or anytime of the day, it is recommended that you ask the car rental agency to deliver the car straight at the airport.
