Lodging Options Within Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo Valley National Park is Uganda’s most remote National Park and unlike other wildlife Parks in the country, it has limited places to stay hence the reason most tourists opt to spend overnights outside the Park. Even with its remoteness, this site boasts of a number of extraordinary wildlife species such as cheetahs, jackals, striped hyenas and extraordinary bird species like Ostriches and the Karamoja Apalis among others.

Due to its remoteness and far distance from the Capital City, almost everything used within the accommodation facilities are accrued from far (sometimes as far as Kampala) and the few facilities within the Park charge high rates but are worthwhile. Therefore, the following are the few accommodation facilities within Kidepo valley National Park;

Apoka Safari Lodge

With a remote and wilderness area of Uganda is Apoka Safari Lodge, a true Paradise surrounded by spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife and numerous bird species but offering comfort and beautiful decoration. Animals especially buffaloes, warthogs, zebras and elephants usually wander around the doorsteps allowing tourists to get closer to nature.

Apoka Safari Lodge is an up-market accommodation facility within the Park Headquarters and undoubtedly the most booked place within the Park. Tourists who get to this facility are frequently visited by wildlife and surrounded by several natural wonders and abundant wildlife species.

This Safari Lodge has en-suite bathrooms with both cold and hot showers, a stone tub outside the room to allow tourists enjoy their baths under the bright stars and private verandas for relaxation. Apoka Rest Camp

Owned by Uganda Wildlife Authority, Apoka Rest Camp offers 14 budget Bandas (built in African style) with bathrooms and toilet facilities outside the Bandas or Cottages. The beautiful scenery of the National Park as well as wildlife species await tourists who visit the Lodge.

These basic Bandas have two beds but no food is offered but can be delivered on request since there is no restaurant within the Rest Camp. There is also a Campsite with self-catering services and tourists are required to carry personal camping equipments/gear such as tents.

Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp

Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp is a midrange accommodation facility found at the edge of Kidepo Valley National Park and offers a wide range of facilities inform of Tented Camps and Cabanas with pristine surrounding and atmosphere. If you intend to spend less on accommodation but at the same time expect quality service and comfort, then the Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp is the perfect place to be. It offers full-board accommodation with delicious meals as well as spacious and cozy rooms in a typical African wilderness.

Kidepo Safari Lodge

Kidepo Safari Lodge is an eco friendly accommodation unit in the park offering luxurious and affordable services. The lodge currently has five cottages and all built from natural materials, covered with a grass-thatched roof, perfectly blending in the environment. All cottages will have a large and private balcony, with hot showers and fantastic views of animals in Kidepo plains. We have a double and a single bed, so can be used for 1 up to 3 persons. Besides cottages we also have a private campsite with showers and toilets.

Kidepo Savannah Lodge

If you are looking for midrange or budget place to stay within Kidepo Valley National Park, then you have to book with the Kidepo Savannah Lodge. The facility is owned and run by Nature Lodges, renowned for running several accommodation facilities in the country.

There are midrange Tents with private bathrooms while others have shared bathrooms but with the same finger-licking food and dining area allowing tourists to share opinions about the trip.

Besides the above, tourists visiting Kidepo Valley National Park can book to stay within Kakine Self-Catering Campsite (owned by the Uganda Wildlife Authority), an accommodation facility located near Apoka visitor’s Center within the Park. However, food is not provided thus tourists are advised to bring their own food for the days spent in the Park. This is where 4×4 Uganda comes in to offer you a cheap 4×4 rental car, with a full camping gear that include a water proof tent, sleeping bags, mattresses, kitchen ware, cutlery, crockery, camper chairs, tables, lamps and BBQ grill among others.
