Overview of the Ebola Situation in Uganda
The Ebola situation in Uganda has had a lot of miscomputation challenges rooted in two power centers; that is the world health organization and the United States of America travel advisory.
World Health Organization Communication
On the 16th of May 2026, the world health organization issued a press release informing the world that there was an Ebola outbreak in Congo that should be treated as an “international health emergency concern“. It went ahead to share details that were still unconfirmed at that time of reporting. They had heard so far 80 suspected death due to Ebola, 79 of these were in Congo and one case in Uganda. They suspected that 245 people had contacted Ebola in Congo and one extra person in Uganda.

Given the international health concern language, they advised; “There should be no international travel of Bundibugyo virus disease contacts or cases, unless the travel is part of an appropriate medical evacuation. To minimize the risk of international spread of Bundibugyo virus disease” Shortly after this, the international community listened and responded swiftly; many countries put Uganda and Congo on the level 4 travel alert status. In all the communication, it was never this is the situation in Congo rather it was, this is the situation in Uganda and Congo.
United States Of America First Ebola Statement
On 18th May 2026, the United States of America Embassy in Uganda issued a statement about its awareness regarding the Ebola outbreak in Uganda and the Democratic republic of Congo to which they promised some reasonable amounts of money in support to curb the epidemic.
A couple of days later, they issued a travel advisory placing Uganda in the level 4 (do not travel category). With the Ebola outbreak and the American travel advisory, several other countries placed Uganda on the Do not travel list along with the Democratic republic of Congo. However the Uganda ministry of health engaged not only the American Embassy but all foreign representatives in Uganda to give them the facts that seemed contrary to what the World health organization had communicated.
United Kingdom Travel Advisory To Uganda Amidst Ebola
What was not stated above was that the United States of America travel advisory was not solely about Ebola. It was also about their other political disagreement with Uganda including the gay rights and the recent violence in the recently concluded elections where about nine people lost their lives. With that at the back of your mind; the same facts about Ebola in Uganda were shared by the ministry of health with the United Kingdom and having gone through the facts, the United Kingdom didn’t adopt the United States of America travel advisory to Uganda.

The Facts That The Media Has Not Presented About Ebola In Uganda
- Uganda is merely a neighboring country to the Democratic republic of Congo. It is not part of the DRC
- The first Ebola case of the person that died in Uganda was a Congolese, they were not Ugandan. They simply came to Kampala to seek medical attention.
- The person that died infected four Ugandan including the medics and the driver
- None of these people has died. As per the communication from the ministry of health today, four people have recovered from Ebola and have been discharged
- The 11 cases of Ebola are Congolese that used Kenya, Ethiopia and some border parts of Uganda to get into the country. They came because all the Ebola cases in Uganda were recovering and they did everything possible to get into the country so that they can be treated to save their lives.
- 634 people got in touch with the 11 patients and they are all in Quarantine at the moment.
- Uganda is going to establish 4 mobile hospitals in the epi centers of Ebola in the Democratic republic of Congo by the end of this week
- Ituri, Alur, Ntoroko and Kasenyi are the places Uganda is establishing mobile hospitals to handle the disease from the source.
- Uganda has not exported any Ebola case since the epidemic started
- No person in the Uganda general public has been identified to have Ebola since the epidemic started besides the driver and the medics
- All flights to Congo were barred
- All Uganda-Congo border points have been closed
- World Health Organization has revised Ebola cases from 1000 to 116 cases
With the above information, you can get a clear picture about the Ebola situation in Uganda. You will notice that it is the world health Organization that has caused all this misinformation about Uganda. The same organization that told everyone not travel bundled up more than 200 journalists and took them to Congo contrary to their very own travel advisory to simply do a fundraising campaign. Apparently part of the hyped numbers of infections have been revised from 1000+ cases to only 116 cases
We cannot determine when the situation in Uganda is expected to get back to normal. But that is all dependent on the world health organization. The American travel advisory is not likely to change in the near future but for purposes of double checking on whether the situation is as they claim it to be, you can refer to the United Kingdom travel advisory to Uganda.
Uganda is safe for travel. Expect a few delays at Entebbe international airport due to the screening. 4x4uganda is still open and offering safaris around Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. You do not have to cancel your trip to Uganda, the Ebola cases are in the hospital and none has been found is in the general public.
