Uganda Receives 22 Southern White Rhinos From South Africa

Ajai Wildlife Reserve used to be one of the leading Rhino strongholds in Uganda. However, the unrest of the 1970s and the 1980s did not leave the country the same. All Rhino was wiped out of this reserve. Currently, there are only two places in Uganda where you can find rhinos. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola District and the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center in Entebbe.
Today, Uganda received 22 southern white Rhinos from south Africa. A few days ago Uganda wildlife Authority had given an update on how they had already make adjustments in Ajai wildlife reserve to ensure that the transfer is smooth. Among the changes that were made in the reserve include the installation of a 30,000 liter reservoir to ensure that there is a continuous supply of water.
They also in the process of putting up a 40 kilometer electric perimeter fence to ensure that poaching in this reserve is minimized.  Ranger outposts have been put in place. A total of 22 families were compensated to pave way for the expansion of the Ajai reserve. With the 22 Rhinos that are being taken to the reserve, Ajai is becoming the third place in Uganda where you can find the southern white Rhinos. Previous, they had gone extinct but currently with the introduction of the 22, Uganda has a total of 59 white rhinos.
The success of the white Rhino captive breeding is among the few success wildlife conservation stories Uganda is proud of Uganda. Mountain gorillas used to be among the most endangered species in Uganda but have seen a lot of success in their conservation. Currently, Uganda wildlife authority pledged to ensure that the lion population in the national parks is increased.
