Uganda is one of the emerging tourist destinations in East Africa, with gorilla tracking as the main activity; giving it an edge over Kenya and Tanzania. Besides, gorilla tracking, the green environment of Uganda is incomparable to all the other East African countries.

Though most of the tour operators have not embraced Airbnb in Uganda, it is one of the silently growing industries in Uganda. A few years ago, Airbnb services were only available in Kampala and Entebbe, and Jinja but today, the same services can be found as far as the western parts of Uganda (Fort portal, Kasese…..).

The western part of Uganda has most of Uganda’s national parks; the growth on Airbnb in such locations is of great importance and impact on the cost of accommodation more so for transient individuals.

One of the main hindrances to budget local and international travelers has been accommodation; but today a visitor is in position to acquire accommodation at as low as US$15(of course bed only without breakfast). This makes travel and tourism one of the undeniable budget leisure activities.

There are also several eat-outs that have developed in these far towns of Uganda. With a self drive 4×4, you are given more time to drive around the town to find eat-outs of your choice before dashing out to your place of rest.

How to book Accommodation on Airbnb?
Here are a few things to consider when booking accommodation on Airbnb:

Create an account.
Booking accommodation on Airbnb needs you to first create an account with Airbnb. Like Uber, Taxify, WhatsApp, Facebook, Gmail and the likes; you cannot access their services unless you have an account with them. Therefore the first thing you will need to do is open up an account at www.Airbnb.com

Search with dates.
Set the dates you are considering to book accommodation then do hit the search button to have all the available spaces displayed.

Limit the price.
Without limiting the price range, you will be given all the weird options available; from luxurious to mid-range, to budget. But if you have already made up your mind on what you are willing to spend; then you limit the price to that specific amount you are willing to spend in order to get the options fitting your budget.

Select the room type.
Airbnb has three room categories.
Shared rooms; are the kind of rooms where the all the spaces are shared with the host and other visitors. In other words, you have no space to yourself.
Private rooms; are rooms where you share common areas with the host (i.e. kitchen, living room, and bathroom) but you have your own private room for sleeping.
Entire homes/apartments: As the title states, in this you have the entire unit to yourself and don’t have to share the space with the host or with anyone else.

It is always important to identify these specifications before you do your search. Most of the Airbnb spaces in Uganda fall in the category of Entire homes/ apartments. Only a few have shared spaces which also fall in the category of budget.

Use the filters for amenities, facilities and house rules.
Each Airbnb space might have different rules and regulation as well as offering different facilities. For instance some hosts do not allow pets, or smoking in their spaces; while other are okay with all this. So it important to consider this when using Airbnb
